A weekly nugget or two of pain science news and ideas for patients and pros, usually 400–1000 words. The blog is the “director’s commentary” on the core content of PainScience.com: a library of major articles and books about common painful problems and popular treatments. My interest in pain is not academic and abstract. It used to be. For years I said that I was “prone” to aches and pains, and that was true — I’ve always had some kind of vulnerability to musculoskeletal mischief. But I was still an amateur! Unfortunately, over the last couple years, I have come to know real chronic pain (starting with my strange throat problem in mid-2014, and escalating from there). And I think that experience probably shines through in this new article. It’s short and emotional. I was overdue to write something a little more personal than science analysis and debunkery.
