When you train, “key regulatory genes and proteins… are influenced by previous training history.” There’s some fresh evidence on this, a biopsy study from Moberg et al. I first wrote about muscle cells sprouting new nuclei back in January; both studies are now cited in my two articles about strength training.
It’s a terrific argument in favour of strength training. I think most people imagine that all their hard-earned progress just goes up in smoke if they neglect the gym for a few months. Certainly de-conditioning is real, but, happily, you actually can’t lose everything you’ve gained. Yahtzee!
