Weekly nuggets of pain science news and insight, usually 100-300 words, with the occasional longer post. The blog is the “director’s commentary” on the core content of PainScience.com: a library of major articles and books about common painful problems and popular treatments. See the blog archives or updates for the whole site.

Readers often thank me for my “research.” I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I am not a “researcher” except in the most limited sense: I look a lot of stuff up and I report on my findings.

Unlike me, Dr. Cynthia Thomson is an actual researcher at the University of the Fraser Valley (here in my neck of the woods, as it happens). Just like me, her work is inspired and informed by her own chronic pain. And she needs chronic pain patients to study!

Dr. Thomson is recruiting subjects for a test of the effectiveness of an app that uses education, psychology, and mindfulness to treat chronic pain. You can participate from anywhere, as long as you have had chronic body or head pain frequent for at least 6 months. The study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov. See the recruitment poster below for some more details. You can apply or inquire by sending an email to painfree.ufv@gmail.com.

Someday the real work will be done, and I can look it up and report on it. “Research!”
