Weekly nuggets of pain science news and insight, usually 100-300 words, with the occasional longer post. The blog is the “director’s commentary” on the core content of PainScience.com: a library of major articles and books about common painful problems and popular treatments. See the blog archives or updates for the whole site.

Yet more bad news for the taping fad from a new study: “RockTape provides no benefit over sham taping in people with knee osteoarthritis who are completing an exercise program.” I could tell you more about the study, but who are we kidding? It's very simple, and the title says the only thing we need to know, which we already knew, because there are quite a few of these now.

Not that taping will be stopped by mere science! Not that any fad ever has. Seriously. Never. Anything that captures the public imagination is immune to evidence and reason: all that ever matters is that some famous people “swear by it.”

My taping article was recently rebooted: The Dubious Science of Kinesiology Tape: The origin story and science of therapy tapes like Kinesio Tape, KT Tape, Spider-Tech, RockTape.
