This is a particularly wonderful article, which uses a fascinating and awful medical story — about a woman who scratched through her skull — to make an important and interesting point about how pain works. This is a point that a lot of us are making in a lot of different ways, and more all the time, but this is the best I’ve seen yet: great storytelling and superb reasoning, from one of the best medical writers alive today.
